The Milk Barn Farm Titan Blooms!
Here at Milk Barn Farm, we grow all kinds of flowers! In addition to the hemp flowers we use for our CBD products, we have a real unusual flower blooming in our greenhouse right now, so we thought we'd share.
Amorphophallus titanum (aka Corpse Flower or Titan Arum) is the plant with the largest inflorescence (flower) in the world. And when it blooms, it smells like creeping death. Native to the tropics of Sumatra, it's an unusual thing to find in a greenhouse in Oregon. In fact, it may be the first time one has flowered here. We have the seed thanks to a gift from a University of Missouri botanist who shared it with us 13 years ago.
Titans grow from an enormous corm (bulb) in cycles that last 16-18 months. Each time the plant emerges, it could be in its tree form, which is technically one giant leaf that can reach 15 feet tall, or it could be a flower. This time, our Titan chose to flower for the very first time.
We will keep our Live Stream going until the big, stinky bloom, which we think will be around July 23. But that's just a guess - it's our first time!
Oh, and, in the meantime, if you'd like to get some Tinctures or Topicals for a few bucks off, use the code TITAN.
